Introduction The design partnership of the owner Rory Tompsett
H.N.D. Landscape Science & Design and Peter Hulland
H. Dip Garden Design (Part time Garden Design Lecturer
at Rease Heath Horticultural College & Graphic Design
at Macclesfield College) provide a creative, qualified
and experienced team who understand clients’ requirements
and the full implications of installation techniques.
The entire process comes under one roof, reducing the
dilution of the design principals that can happen when
dealing with separate designers and contractors.
Benefits of an Actual Landscapes Designer Garden
- Highly creative and cost effective solutions tailored

- Achieves an increase in pleasure, stress relief,
time with the family and an opportunity to have friends
and relatives over for Al fresco dining / Entertaining.

which can help sell a house in days rather than months.
- Professional planning can significantly reduce the
cost/ time for maintenance.

- Keep costs down by undertaking some of the work
yourself.
Design Process
Rory or Peter will visit the Site and provide a
Free Site Consultation.
We will establish your requirements and demonstrate
the varied products and services that Actual Landscapes
provide. Full plan and photographic portfolios will
be shown of previous work to give the client a taste
and flavour of what can be achieved.
Actual Landscapes pride themselves on meeting the clients’
requirements by working through a Design Brief that
establishes the key factors of Aesthetics, Function
and indications of Cost. The design brief measures the
likes / dislikes and elements that could be considered.
A full site survey is undertaken which includes laser
measuring equipment to establish boundaries and other
elements that will affect the finished design, digital
photographs and MP4 Video pictures will be taken to
assist with the ‘borrowed landscape’ views
and issues with screening, and the Aspect will plotted
to allow full use of the Sun at various times of the
day.
Actual Landscapes will provide 2-3 different Master
plans (subject to the client brief) based on the Design
Brief. The Master plans will be presented to the client
(with copies) and discussed with explanations of why
elements of the design have been positioned in their
locations, suggestions on materials and recommendations
on the type of key planting areas.
The client will have the luxury of choosing from more
than one design.
Lighting
Lighting plans will be included, as part of the
service once a design has been chosen.
Lighting provides further enhancement of the garden
investment as it can provide two gardens for the price
of one. At low light levels the garden can take on a
different ambience and mood, lengthens the amount of
time in the garden and can make the interior of the
house feel larger and create the illusion of depth.
Costs
The chosen design can then be subjected to a detailed
costs analysis breakdown. The individual elements will
be priced with a specification explaining how these
figures are calculated.
The prices or ‘Shopping list’ can used
to select the individual elements or a complete project
can be chosen. If a multi item project is chosen then
cost reductions will apply; this will be explained in
detail at the Cost Presentation.
Actual Landscapes make a small-subsidised charge for
this thorough and professional service, which is paid
after the presentation of the Master Plans. This charge
is refunded if Actual Landscapes undertakes the construction/
installation work.
Sketch Designs
If the client requires a less detailed design option,
this is available at no charge.
Planting Plans
Detailed Planting Plans can be provided that can enhance
the mood / theme for the more adventurous gardener.
A separate charge is made for this option as a further
detailed / scaled plan and list is produced. (Details
on Request)
